Installing Steris SPM Application
- Pre-Installation
Prior to installing the SPM MHC (Android) app, the Zebra device must meet the following requirements:
1. Able to access the hospital network via Wi-Fi. Depending on hospital wireless protocols, this may require certificates or wireless profiles to be set up on the device to support connecting to the hospital network.
2. The SPM MHC (Android) app communicates via http with the SPM Windows Service over the hospital’s internal network. No network traffic goes over the internet. If the hospital wishes to further secure the communications by using SSL communication, a certificate must be installed on the Zebra device that allows it to trust the certificate used to encrypt the SPM Windows Service. See the MHC (Android) – Security Information document for more information.
3. Able to access the SPM Windows Service from a web browser.
To test this, navigate to the URL below from the web browser on the device. If using SSL, use https instead of http. Substitute the IP address or server name of the server, and the HTTP port from the SPM Windows Service configuration.
http://SERVERNAME:51001/SpmServiceHttp/Case or
https://SERVERNAME:51001/SpmServiceHttp/Case
• SERVERNAME – Substitute with the name or IP address of the server where the SPM Windows Service is running.
• 51001 – Substitute with the Http Port number specified in your SPM Windows Service config file. 51001 is the default port, but the facility may use any available port of their choosing.
- Installation
There are two methods to transfer the APK installation file to the device.
-
Transfer file by plugging the device in to USB
- Plug the device in via USB to a computer and transfer the file using the device as a storage card. Place the APK file into a folder in the devices root file folder on the device. Then use a file browsing app on the device to open the APK file to install it.
-
Configure a web page with a link to download file
- Complete the following steps to configure a simple web page to provide a link to download the APK installation file:
- 1. Place the files from the SPMAndroid_v2017.1.1 distribution file into a folder on the server
- 2. In IIS, create a new web site, specifying a custom port to use to access the web site. Alternatively, it would be possible to use the Default Web Site for the computer, but this may interfere with other websites hosted by the server or may be against hospital protocols. Specify the Physical Path for the website to be the folder location to which you copied the distribution files. Give the website a name such as SPMMobile.
- 3. On the Device, browse to http://servername:port. Click the link to download the Zebra installation package.
- 4. Once the file downloads, open it to install the app.
- Configure SPM application
-
Once the app is installed on the device, open it and you will be prompted to enter the device settings, including the server address (name or IP can be used), the port number, and whether to use SSL.
- The server address is the name (or IP address) of the server where the SPM Windows Service is running.
- The port number by default is 51001, but this can be changed as desired by the facility. The port number must match the Http Port setting in the SPM Windows Service’s config file.
- The option for using SSL should be off if no certificate has been used to configure the SPM Windows Service for HTTPS. The option for using SSL should only be turned on if the SPM Windows Service has been configured for SSL and the appropriate root certificate has been installed on the Android device to enable a trusted connection between the client and the server.
- Enter the appropriate settings and click Save. This launches the client registration page and the cache initialization. This process may take several minutes to complete the first time.
- Once it completes, the login page appears. To log in to the app, you need a username and password for SPM, or an Active Directory account that has been linked with an SPM user record.
