HOW TO Change Your Network Password

Network credentials are defined as the username and password used to login to your PC, laptop or VDI. These credentials are also used to access Outlook, Jabber and numerous other applications.

As a security requirement and per GRHC policy, all staff are required to change their passwords every 90 days.  Some additional password requirements:

  • Cannot repeat any of the last 10 passwords you have used
  • Cannot include any part of your name
  • Must be at least 8 characters long
  • Must include a combination of upper- and lower-case letters, numbers and symbols

IMPORTANT NOTE:  Once you change your password, please be sure to also update it on all other devices you use to access your GRHC account, including mobile phones.  Otherwise, your network account may get locked out.

Before starting the steps below, please be sure to save your work and close all programs and web browsers.

There are multiple methods for changing your network password, depending on your specific scenario.

  1. Simultaneously press the Ctrl, Alt and Del keys on your keyboard
  2. Click Change a Password

  3. Type in your old/current password, and then enter your new password twice.  Then press Enter, or click the arrow button next to the confirm password box

  4. You should see a confirmation message.  Click OK

  5. Reboot your PC and log back in with your new password

Method 2:  From a virtual desktop (VDI) / Citrix, on campus or working remotely

  1. From the VDI session, click the black button with the down arrow at the top of the screen

  2. Click the Ctrl+Alt+Del button in the toolbar

  3. Click Change a Password

  4. Type in your old/current password, and then enter your new password twice.  Then press Enter, or click the arrow button next to the confirm password box

  5. You should see a confirmation message.  Click OK

Method 3:  From a PC or laptop, working remotely and connected via VPN (Cisco AnyConnect)

  1. Connect the Cisco AnyConnect VPN

  2. Simultaneously press the Ctrl, Alt and Del keys on your keyboard
  3. Click Change a Password

  4. Type in your old/current password, and then enter your new password twice.  Then press Enter, or click the arrow button next to the confirm password box

  5. You should see a confirmation message.  Click OK

  6. Reboot your laptop, log back in and reconnect your AnyConnect session with your new password

Method 4:  From a PC or laptop, working remotely and not connected via VPN

  1. Open a web browser and access Outlook Web Access (webmail.grhc.org)

  2. Login to OWA with your network username (GRHC\username) and your current password

  3. In the upper right corner of the screen, click on the gear icon and select Options

  4. In the left menu, expand General and select My account

  5. In the right column just above the mailbox usage indicator, click on Change your password

  6. Type in your old/current password, and then enter your new password twice.  Then click the Save button

  7. Logoff of OWA

Important Note: You will still need to use your old password to login to your laptop until you can return to campus and directly connect it to the GRHC network. This will synchronize it with the directory.
